Walking Can Not Only Raise Money for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research but Actually Reduce the Risk of Developing it.
The 2013 New York Avon walk for breast cancer raised 6.7 million dollars to advance access to care and find a cure for breast cancer. I was able to provide some foot care guidance to a group of 18 women who participated and raised 57 thousand dollars for the cause. My focus was on blister prevention due to the high mileage they were walking. The information I provided can be found in my video:

A recent study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research found that women who engaged in at least one hour of vigorous physical activity a day had a 25% lower risk for breast cancer. Women who walked at least an hour a day had a 14% lower risk for developing breast cancer.
Walking in a great work out. It requires no special equipment and can be done almost anywhere. It is a relatively low impact exercise but depending on speed and terrain can provide a vigorous work out. Proper shoe fit is essential in preventing injury. To learn how to pick a shoe that’s right for you please seen my video at

There are a variety of products available that can help present blister formation. My preferance is silicon based protective shields to decrease friction. They can be applied to “hot spots’ or areas of increased friction without the use of adhesive. Silicion shields, as well as, conventional adhesive protective pads can be found at: www.footsupplystore.com
